Narrative
THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND.
The first place of worship on Charters Towers was St. Phillips' Church, which was erected at Millchester and was opened there in 1873, about two years after the field opened, and when that portion of the gold field was the most populous. The building, which can seat 200 people, cost about £600, and services are still held in it, but it is certainly not in the best state of preservation.
Services are held every Sunday there, and there are 80 Sunday School scholars, with a staff of eight teachers. The present church wardens are Messrs William Scliroek, Clergy man's Warden, and J. Wicker, Peoples' Warden.
